Can I drive in Spain with a driving license from another country?

You are allowed to drive with all the permits issued in countries of the European Union and the European Economic Area (Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway).
In addition, under certain conditions, the following driving licenses are also valid for driving in Spain:

  • Nationals of other countries that are issued by the Geneva Convention, or with the Vienna Convention*, or that differ from said models only in the adoption or suppression of non-essential signatures.
  • National permits from other countries that are written in Spanish or are accompanied by an official translation thereof.
  • International permits are issued abroad by the Geneva Convention, or by the model of the Paris International Convention, in the case of nations adhering to this Convention that have not signed or provided accession to Geneva.
  • Those recognized in particular international agreements to which Spain is a party and under the conditions indicated therein.

*These are the countries that have a Convention agreement with Spain: Algeria, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Macedonia, Morocco, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Serbia, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
